Richard McVeigh
Richard was appointed as our Accompanist in September 2015. From 2008-2013 he was Assistant Organist at Winchester Cathedral, having previously held positions at York Minster, Chester Cathedral and Beverley Minster. In 2012, Richard left Winchester to become the Acting Assistant Director of Music at Sheffield Cathedral before making the transition into IT and choosing to pursue music on a freelance basis.
Richard was a chorister at Chesterfield Parish Church, and went on to study music at university in Hull, during which time he was Assistant Organist at Beverley Minster whilst receiving organ lessons from John Scott-Whitely. H e was also the director of the University Chapel Choir. His duties at Winchester Cathedral involved accompanying the internationally renowned choir on a regular basis, and he took a full role in the training of the chorister probationers. He was also heavily involved in the Chorister Outreach Programme which involved going into local primary schools on a weekly basis to teach young children to sing.
As an accompanist and a recitalist, Richard has performed throughout the UK, as well as in France, Italy and Germany. He frequently performs with orchestras and has accompanied many different choirs and choral societies. Recent engagements have included concerts at St Paul’s Cathedral, London, Notre Dame and Saint-Sulpice in Paris where he gave the première of David Briggs’s Messe pour Saint Sulpice. Upcoming recitals include Westminster, Truro and Salisbury Cathedrals.
